00:11The missing person has been going through a divorce.

00:13It's our understanding that's recently been finalized.

00:16No threats of self-harm previously.

00:18Has this happened before?

00:19It's never happened before.

00:20So normally the missing person

00:21and the daughter communicate hourly.

00:24Um, in this instance, there's been no communication at all.

00:27His current behavior seems to be

00:28well out of character.

00:31First up,

00:32police check automatic number plate

00:34recognition cameras

00:35for any sign of Matthew's car.

00:39And they're in luck.

00:42came up on a camera scan

00:44uh heading out of Perth.

00:45So that gave us an indication

00:47that at about 1:20 yesterday afternoon

00:49that he'd left the Perth metro area

00:51and was heading north from Perth.

00:53A check of CCTV at local businesses

00:55along the road

00:57confirms the direction Matthew was heading.

01:00So that's the last time the vehicle was seen.

01:04Police now have a starting point

01:06for their search.

01:09that can assist with a search of a missing person.

01:13uh 49 years of age,

01:14missing from Sorrento.

01:17Matthew is a keen surfer

01:19and a deep sea diver.

01:20So police begin checking the streets

01:22and car parks along the coast

01:24north of Perth for his car.

01:28We're looking for a 2011

01:30Nissan X-Trail,

01:32silver in color.

01:34registration 1 Echo Bravo Golf.

01:39is you can see them from the road.

00:08100 kilometers north of Perth,

00:10find Matthew's car.

00:16At about 2:00 p.m. this afternoon,

00:19we located the missing person's car

00:21in the car park at Grace Darling Park

00:23in Lancelin.

00:24Sergeant Michael Patterson

00:26from Lancelin Police

00:27takes over the case.

00:30Once we got into entry to the car,

00:33we've identified that his dive gear's missing

00:34from the car.

00:36So we were potentially searching for a male

00:39in their wet suit that had either

00:41come into distress on the water

00:42or made their way back to land.

00:46The concern is where's he gone
